I kicked off my 2018 wedding season on March 10, 2018 with the wedding of Becky and Sam. This wedding was so lovely in many ways and I’m so excited that Becky asked me to be a part of their day. Becky and I went to middle and high school together, and not only was it was so nice to reconnect with her, but it’s also a huge honor to be asked to shoot an old classmate’s wedding…especially when they cancel their first photographer to hire you.
I already knew that these two are just adorable on camera (see their Downtown Detroit engagement session here) and that they really bring out something special in each other when they’re together. Becky was one of the most laid back brides I’ve ever encountered, and her dress was to. die. for. I’m hugely jealous of it actually…those sleeves. I’m also a huge fan of her peony bouquet.
According to Sam, this was the first time he’s ever worn a suit. And true to form, he changed into basketball shorts after all the big reception events were behind us. If there was ever a moment to be comfortable, it probably should be your wedding day. Though I’m sure most ladies who wear spanx feel very little sympathy for men in suits.
The Baronette Renaissance Hotel in Novi is wonderfully modern and was perfect for getting ready photos. We used their courtyards for photos — even though it was quite cold and we didn’t see much sun, I think the portraits turned out wonderfully. It just goes to show you don’t need much to make it work.
I think my favorite part of this wedding (other than working with a bomb bride and groom) was Becky’s dad surprising her with “Mr. Flamingo.” If you scroll down to the bottom, you’ll see photos of him in a Flamingo suit. He danced to “I’m Too Sexy” and honestly I think it was the highlight of any wedding I’ve ever been to thus far. Any time parents let it all hang out is a good time in my book.
I wish Becky and Sam all the happiness in the world! I loved being a part of their day!
