If you didn’t already know, I actually am a lover of historical buildings (and history in general – I minored in it in college), and the Ypsilanti Freighthouse is such a unique venue, ripe with historical vibes right down to the brick facade and the old wooden floor. When Tate and Kelly’s inquiry for a fall Ypsilanti Freighthouse wedding came across my inbox, I knew I really wanted the gig!
Not only did I love being back for a Ypsilanti Freighthouse wedding (see a very warm summer Ypsilanti Freighthouse wedding here), but I adored working with Kelly and Tate, two people who seem to just fit so well together. They share a love for reading, the outdoors, and are definitely the type of people I’d find in my own friend circle. We met last year in Ann Arbor for their engagement session – they met at the University of Michigan and Kelly is still in grad school there so it seemed fitting.
Kelly and Tate truly had the MOST beautiful fall day. In 2024, we were SPOILED for fall weather in Michigan. And when I say it was truly the perfect day, I mean it! The sun was showing off, the leaves were popping and everything just flowed perfectly throughout the day. Even without a first look, we were able to get these two off to cocktail hour to enjoy themselves for a bit, which is always a feat but I love when it happens!
I cannot say enough good things about this fall Ypsilanti Freighthouse wedding, only that I want to go back to the freighthouse ASAP – there’s just so many textures near the venue, which makes it easy to get portraits done quickly and easily. We were able to use the venue as a backdrop and the park across the street to get two different backdrops.
From the couple: “We hired Madalyn to take our engagement photos and to photograph our wedding, and she was the absolute best. From the very beginning, she was super on top of everything, with multiple questionnaires over the course of the year leading up to our wedding. She made a schedule for our wedding day that we were able to share with the rest of our vendors and included so many useful details. Besides how organized and pleasant Madalyn was to work with, her photographs were incredible. She captured so much joy in her pictures and we could not be happier that we hired her for our wedding.”
