As I write this, I’m sitting by little fireplace heater and my Christmas tree. It’s hard to imagine that it was once warm here in Michigan, but it indeed was, especially in August for Robyn and Adam’s Blake’s Orchards wedding. I simply adore these two as clients…they trusted me, they were fun to work with, and they gave me so much time to create. Not to mention, they are just really kind people who enjoy a good beer. Their wedding was one of the firsts in the Apple Barn at Blake’s Orchards. I know Blake’s well, as I have been going there at least once a year since I was a kid…mostly for Christmas trees, but also for apples, cider, and donuts. It’s changed a lot in 20 years, but I’m loving that they are using the space for events!
Robyn and Adam had their first look outside Heritage Gardens in Shelby Township. What an emotional one it was. First of all, Robyn was the epitome of a bride…so freaking gorgeous. This day was 8 years in the making for them! Robyn was not the last surprise for Adam. Robyn had arranged for one of Adam’s good friends to fly in from Japan for the wedding and Adam had NO idea. This is what weddings are all about.
Their ceremony at the historic Hope Chapel was officiated by a friend and was short, heartfelt and filled with many flower girls — they have lots of nieces! After the ceremony, we had some time before the reception, so some family and friends headed to the Great Baraboo Brewery where Robyn and Adam are mug club members. Right behind the bar they signed their marriage license, making it official.
After some portraits in the empty orchards at Blake’s (loved having them to ourselves), the party started in the Apple Barn. After heartfelt toasts from two close friends and Robyn’s dad, everyone enjoyed a delicious meal. After a cake cutting (and some donut eating of course), we snuck out once more for some nighttime photos. This has been one of my favorite parts of the wedding day for my 2018 couples. I’ve tried to make a point to get them out of the reception just for a few minutes alone. These have been some of my favorite photos!
This day was unforgettable in so many ways and I loved being a part of this wedding day. It’s always hard to deliver the photos and say goodbye, especially when you feel like your clients are now friends.
