One of my favorite places for engagement photos in all of Detroit is Belle Isle. Jannine and Kevin’s spring Belle Isle Conservatory engagement session was the perfect way to usher in warmer weather! These two were planning a Hawaiian destination wedding so naturally gravitated towards a very green spot for engagement photos.
We started at the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, freshly opened after two years of renovations and repairs! I always recommend a weekday for spring Belle Isle Conservatory engagement sessions because the conservatory gets super busy on weekends. This day, we had it mostly to ourselves, though there were a few people strolling along. The day was relatively sunny for Michigan and the flowers were starting to pop!
The best part about doing a spring Belle Isle Conservatory Engagement session is the fact that it’s NOT weather dependent. The conservatory is always warm and cozy inside – sometimes honestly TOO warm and cozy, which makes it comfortable in most all seasons except maybe summer. There are no other conservatories in the Detroit area except in Ann Arbor.
Splitting your time between the Belle Isle Conservatory and another part of the island is my favorite way to structure these sessions. For Jannine and Kevin, we decided to take advantage of the willow trees on the water (a favorite spot of mine), a quick stop at the fountain and then a random lilac tree that I just had to use because spring is fleeting and we were too late for cherry blossoms. You never know exactly when things will bloom as everything is completely weather dependent but the lilacs were popping!
I always keep spots on my calendar open for engagement sessions (in all seasons) for those who are eloping, having destination weddings or just aren’t sure when they’re going to plan a wedding. I’d love to hear from you!
