Living in the midwest, our wedding season is primarily May to October, but I love when a couple decides to forgo the typical wedding season for a winter wedding. Alyssa and Alex’s winter Colony Club wedding was such a lovely day – filled with sunshine, smiles, laughter, and a beautiful venue for a beautiful couple!
Alyssa and Alex met at the University of Michigan – where we did their engagement session. They really wanted a beautiful ballroom wedding that felt like one huge party – and that’s truly what they got!
In February, you never quite know what Michigan will give you weather-wise, but honestly the day was quite perfect for winter weather. No snow interrupted any travel which was all we could ask for.
These two were set on a first look – and we decided that using the Fisher Building for most all of their wedding photos was the best idea considering the time of year. I love the Fisher Building and adore shooting there! After a heartfelt first look, we took wedding party and couples photos around the building. Its art deco vibes makes the perfect backdrop for photos!
Their ceremony took place at the Community of Christ church where Alex’s dad married the pair in a lovely ceremony. Then we headed to the Colony Club for the reception! It was my first time at this venue and I adored it. The historic beauty of the ballroom for this winter Colony Club wedding was so lovely and made for the perfect backdrop to their event. There are very few places like it in the city.
One of my favorite parts of this wedding was the toasts – both Alyssa’s father and Alex’s mother spoke and both had touching — and funny – things to say about the couple.
