No detail was left behind during this fall Jam Handy wedding. Deirdre and Stan have impeccable taste and brought a colorful, vibrant, elegant celebration to life at the historic Jam Handy. Deirdre and Stan are incredible in front of the camera – peep their engagement session at the Fisher Building – and I was lucky enough to capture their wedding day!
The day started at the Siren Hotel in downtown Detroit. The Siren is full of rich history and design. One of the best parts of this fall Jam Handy wedding was that the bride wore a GOLD wedding dress. I loved this untraditional vibe and Deirdre truly rocked it!
After a quick first look inside the Siren – we headed over to the Wayne County building for portraits. This building is not used as much as others in the city – though I’m not sure why. It’s just as pretty as the DIA and Library, but more centrally located. I truly adore the portraits from this Jam Handy wedding – I cannot get enough!
I would call this wedding untraditional (in a good way of course) – Deirdre and Stan had an uneven wedding party, but I don’t think you notice much when I posed them. It really doesn’t matter to me and a good photographer will know how to set the group up!
The last stop before the ceremony was the Cass Ave viaduct in New Center, just down the street from the Jam Handy. This is another of my favorite spots for those couples who love COLOR! Also, you can sometimes get a gorgeous yummy light if you hit this spot at the right time of day.
The Jam Handy was transformed with so many personal touches, I can’t begin to name them all. It was GORGEOUS. The ceremony for this fall Jam Handy wedding was right inside the main space. The couple had their “toasts” as speeches during the ceremony, which I actually loved. Everyone was paying attention and not starving. The cocktail hour had huge grazing boards and personalized napkins.
Dancing under a “D” and “S” made by Deirdre’s father was the capstone of the night. This fall Jam Handy wedding was so much fun and one of my favorite weddings I’ve ever shot – the uniqueness and personality of the couple shines through in this one so much.
