When I first met Deirdre over zoom for a wedding consultation, I just knew that I had to be a part of her and Stan’s wedding day and engagement photos. Not only are these two such sweet people, but their sense of style is impeccable. They are fire in front of the camera, truly! Their Fisher Building engagement session was really quite perfect for March – half inside, half outside, with honestly the perfect golden hour light. I can’t believe how lucky I got with sunsets last March!

I shot this Fisher Building engagement session at 34 weeks pregnant and it was my last session before maternity leave. What a bang! Deirdre asked me to really incorporate architecture and art into their images, so I really feel like I stretched myself a little bit more than I usually do, erring more editorial than photojournalistic. I like to think I come out somewhere in the middle of it all – a good balance of everything.

The Fisher Building is perhaps the most beautiful building in Detroit. If you happen to be able to get on a tour of it, I highly recommend it. It is so cool and worth the time. There are actual offices, businesses, and a theater in the building, but the lobby area is absolutely gorgeous. And as of right now one of the few places in the city where you can still go inside and take portraits without much trouble, making a Fisher Building engagement session so perfect for those colder months. For the second half of the session, we headed over to the Detroit Public Library to use the exterior of the building. It’s actually another one of my favorite spots in the city – very underrated but still sophisticated like the DIA across the street and WAY less busy.
